The Good Roll x Benji's
The green character of Benji's
Benji's goes green. Literally and figuratively. The abundance of green plants immediately puts you in a chill urban jungle vibe. But the choice for 'green' is not only in the appearance, all choices Benji's makes are as green as possible. So is the choice of hygiene paper, with The Good Roll.
There are few places where the urban jungle theme is so well implemented. Co-owner David Markx says he wanted to create a place where both locals and tourists can escape the hustle and bustle of the city and find themselves in a green oasis. "Benji's is an (inter)nationally oriented all-day brunch concept where the focus is on healthy, fresh, colorful, modern and sustainable food. Inspired by the brunch culture and jungle vibes of Bali. We serve dishes from around the world served with an Asian touch and tropical cocktails poured for the true breakfast champions." Benji's has since opened three locations in Amsterdam: East, West and New West.
More than just beautiful, also responsible
David values not only appearance and experience, but also sustainability and social responsibility. "Whenever possible, we choose sustainable and responsible. That also makes our concept credible, I think." For example, Benji's uses no plastic, all disposables are made of wood or bamboo and two of the three locations use no gas. The ingredients at Benji's are also as responsible as possible.
The switch to sustainable hygiene paper
Continuous optimization and improvement keeps Benji's on its toes. What could be more sustainable and better, the team constantly asks itself. "We like to work with somewhat smaller, sustainable brands; that fits our vision better. For example, we serve the Amsterdam beer brand Oedipus and have coffee from Lot 61 from Amsterdam." And so the idea also arose to take a closer look at the purchase of hygiene paper. "We first used Tork, a big brand that you see a lot in the hospitality industry. We started looking for suppliers that matched Benji's in terms of vision."
On a visit to Vondelgym, David first became acquainted with The Good Roll. He envisioned a partnership. "We share the same values and vision of corporate social responsibility. If we can make an impact together with our suppliers, or actually partners, and together we can make the world a little better or more beautiful, we will do it. For example, we also work with Marie Stella Maris, a mineral water brand that donates a fixed percentage of sales to sustainable water projects."
'We care about the story'
Benji's purchases toilet paper, wiping paper and towel paper from The Good Roll. "The quality is just good. That's good from a lot of brands. For us, it's more about the story of The Good Roll. The sustainability and the impact makes the deal worthwhile." The partnership is still fresh, but David sees the future positively. "I hope we can still make a lot of impact together, where it is needed most," he says. Yes, we can only agree with that ... let's make impact together!
